The latest “Off the Record” podcast features James Bell’s interview of Indianapolis attorney Rick Kammen. Since 2008, Rick has served as the defense lawyer for the alleged USS Cole bombing mastermind, Abd al-Rahim al Nashiri.

Nashiri is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Rick was excused from the Nashiri matter by his superior after facing numerous ethical challenges. Subsequently, Rick made headlines in 2017 when he refused to return to Guantanamo Bay after he was ordered to do so by the judge.  This podcast provides a look at a stranger-than-fiction story that includes torture, classified information and CIA director Gina Haspel.

James and Rick originally spoke for a CLE seminar and the discussion was recorded and broken up into two podcasts. Part 2 of the interview, which delves deeper into the latest developments of this story, will be released June 18.
